A better world...I believe we can all change this world in positive and purposeful ways and embrace sustainable and equitable ways of thinking and living. I believe in the power of storytelling as the vehicle by which we can listen and learn from each other, and my primary focus is on helping individuals and communities use storytelling to create cultures that celebrate global citizenship and sustainability.
I have coached many students and educators in their journeys as changemakers. I am known for my positivity and love for the planet and other humans, and have spent much of my life living in a service- and change-oriented way. I am the Service Learning Advisor for AISA (Association of International Schools in Africa) and an associate with CBK Associates (founded by service learning pioneer Cathryn Berger Kaye) and Inspire Citizens. I am a professional learning strand facilitator for ACAMIS (Association of China and Mongolia International Schools). I love to help school leaders establish strategic vision for global citizenship, and I love coaching small teams of teachers and individual teachers to help embed meaningful storytelling, service learning and global citizenship into curricular experiences for students K-12. |
Stories from KenyaI have partnered with several schools and teams of educators in Kenya through Freedom Through Learning, an organization I founded with my husband, Brian. Check out some stories here.

"Having learned from LeeAnne Lavender for over six years, both inside and outside of the classroom, I can tell you that her years of experience and subsequent insight are unparalleled. I have watched LeeAnne steadfastly help students explore the Sustainable Development Goals, find connections between the curriculum and their own experiences, encourage healthy risk-taking and self-expression in reflective writing prompts, and inspire individuals of various ages to invest in their own health and well-being."
