Storytelling & service...
action for our planet and for others
Let's take a look at some examples of the intersection of stories with service learning across the curriculum so you can get a sense of what this can look like. These snapshots provide a brief glimpse of a unit or lesson; each example is a recent or current classroom experience.
A Community Digital Storytelling Platform
Check out Citizen C, the community digital storytelling platform at Concordia International School Shanghai. This is a wonderful example of how a school can launch its own space for digital storytelling where creativity, innovation, global citizenship and sustainability can be celebrated and nurtured.
Podcasting: a powerful digital storytelling tool
Helping students learn how to tell their stories in an auditory or visual form prepares them to communicate effectively with others in our world. This award-winning podcast by grade 12 student Iffany Z is a great example. She cares deeply about food waste and its role in climate change and produced this podcast as part of her work in a course called Global Development Studies. It's an excellent example of how a student can engage with digital storytelling and service at the same time. This podcast won first place in the SIMA Classroom awards for 2020/21.
